1969 Dodge Charger Daytona. Ford and Dodge were locked in an aerodynamic war on NASCAR’s superspeedways. Dodge’s first aero car, the Charger 500 was inferior to Fords Torino named “Talladega” after their largest NASCAR circuit. Dodge responded late in the season with a Charger unlike any other car on the road. In addition to the flush rear window borrowed from the 500, the Daytona was given a pointed nose extension and trunk-mounted wing . Aesthetically challenged, perhaps, but the air loved it at 200mph. It stomped the field, handily took the 1970 championship and spawned a copycat Plymouth—the Superbird—before NASCAR clamped down on aerodynamics for 1971.

The 1968-70 Chargers --the Coke Bottle Cars-- epitomized Mopar muscle. Whether it was the numerous silver-screen appearances as the legendary winged warriors of the NASCAR super speedways, or good old-fashioned bragging rights on Main Street, the Charger was as high profile a muscle car as any on the road in 1969. The clean look of the '68 is fondly regarded and it shines as one of the great chase scenes in movie history (1968 "Bullltt") The '70 delivered the coolest pallette of colors, but for most the split-grilled '69 was the best.

1966-’67 Dodge Charger The 1965 Mustang made sporty fastbacks cool, so dodge did a sporty version of its midsize mainstay—The Coronet and called it the Charger. The Charger/Cornet shared the B-body architecture with the Plymouth GTX/Belvedere and so had access to the same heavy-duty lineup of engines, including the 426 hemi.
