Everyone has a favorite Corvette

Chances are there is an image of it here. Maybe you would like images of each body style, from The C-1 through C-6. We have them.

Corvette Terminology:

*C1. '53-'62 The live Rear Axle cars

*C2. '63-'67 The Striking Sting-Ray body style

*C3. '68-'82 Coke-Bottle styling based on the Mako Shark show cars

There was no '83 Corvette

*C4. '84-'96 Boxy styling but much improved chassis and brakes

*C5. '97-'04 Very quick but subtle styling

*C6. '05 to Today More aggressive with exposed headlights.

*Sting ray: '63-67 Corvettes

*Stingray: Late'68 '76. Stingray emblems were dropped in '77.

Let's face it; amid th flash and fins, the chrome and color, it takes a very special car to stand out among the Detroit class of 1957. Chevrolet, determined to champion its "hot Ones" as the powerhouse team of the '50's muscled its way into our herts and minds with an industry first: An engine that produced one horsepower per cubic inch. Suddenly, Chevy's plastic-bodied, formerly underpowered roadster was winning races. Not only had the old "Blue Flame" six give way to fuel-injected V-8 engines, but also truly aggressive handling goodies were made available. At the same time, the Corvette had grown more sophisticated and user-friendly, much more so than the Porches of the day.

Like the original Corvette in 1953, the 1968 design was influenced by a show car. It was a development of the Mako Shark I and II which were exhibited in North America and Europe during 1964. The dramatic lines of the new car created new sales records. 28,566 were sold in 1968. The new design was described as a "Coke-Bottle" silhouette in which the fender crowns were higher than the tops of the doors.

1966 was the first year of the Corvette Turbo-Jet 427 V-8. With 427 cubic inches, 425 BHP and 4.11 rear end, the '66 would do 0 to 60 in 4.8 seconds, 0-100 in 11.2 and top 140 mph, making it the fastest corvette ever!

The 1982 Corvette ended in a 15-year series, but the special Collector Edition had something really new. It was the first Corvette with a lift-up rear window for easier luggage access. 1982 was also the first year of full production at the Bowling Green, Kentucky plant.

1986 marked the return of the Corvette Convertible, the first since 1975. The new convertible was introduced several months later than the 1986 coupe with the announcement that it would be the Pace Car fot eh 1986 Indianapolis 500-mile race. Since it was introduced so late in 1986, relatively few were built, only 7315 produced making it an uncommonly desirable addition to any Corvette collection.
